Unlock Motivation
The Leader's Role
The role of leadership in motivating others is learning when to keep score and cheer, when to coach and inspire, and when to hand off and let go.

When people are motivated from the inside out they often get things done against the odds.  Intrinsic motivation is a powerful force.

Four intrinsic rewards have been identified that generate motivation:

Meaningfulness¾Having opportunities for purposeful work

Choice¾Input in selecting what you do and how you do it

Competence¾Skillfully executing tasks and achieving goals

Progress¾Delivering desired work outcomes

Managers who create the opportunities for these rewards should expect to see improved performance.
